In Adam Grant’s “Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World” he challenges one of the biggest misconceptions about successful entrepreneurs – that the most successful take the biggest risks. Actually, the most successful are often just putting out the largest volume of work.
Think Bach, Shakespeare and Picasso – they created thousands of pieces of work, but not all of it was particularly remarkable on its own.
Even some of our most inspiring modern-day sports heroes show us again and again that talent isn’t enough. Michael Phelps proved that you don’t become the most decorated Olympian overnight. It requires hard work and years of discipline; it also requires having a coach fighting in your corner and cheering you on from the stands.
At BusinessBlocks, we know just how lonely it can feel to run your own small business, so we added in something you won’t find in other online courses – your own coach in your corner.
Goal setting with your coach.
According to The Alternative Board’s most recent Business Pulse Survey, 80 percent of business owners said that coaching provides a positive impact on their business. That’s why in our program, you’ll start off by chatting with one of our coaches.
We put a lot of emphasis on goal setting, so first, you’ll reflect on your business own strengths and areas of improvement. Then, we’ll create a personalized schedule that fits each lesson, homework assignment, and Google Hangout perfectly into your calendar.
One of our favorite questions to ask is, “What might prevent you from completing this course?” We stress having these honest conversations early on in our program because it will allow us the time needed to find the best solutions.
For example, many of our small business owners warn us about their worries with time management. And as a result, our coaches work with you to find ways to be efficient with your time.
“Accountability” means not letting your coach down.
In the same Business Pulse Survey, small business owners said “accountability” was the pain point with the greatest benefit of business coaching. “As you run a growing organization, everything gets complex; you get busy and sometimes push off things you know are important.
This is where a business coach comes in.
At BusinessBlocks, our coaches are not scared to pick up the phone and remind you about an upcoming deadline. We provide checkpoints each week, and we monitor your progress based on the goals you set at the beginning of the course.
This is a level of accountability that is seldom found in most online programs. Imagine how difficult it would be to force yourself to complete 3 hours of coursework in addition to running your business full time. Sometimes, you just need someone keeping you motivated, and our coaches don’t mind being that alarm clock for you.
In fact, you might find that they become an integral part of your business. You’ll chat with your coach to brainstorm new business ideas, strategize different marketing channels, or even just vent when you’re frustrated from a long day.
A coach is so much more than a consultant.
That is what is so crucial about having a coach, and why it’s so different from having a consultant. There is an old adage in the business world that perfectly captures the difference: a consultant will help you decide which bike to buy, and will also teach you how to ride it.
A coach, on the other hand, will help you understand why you want to ride a bike, what’s holding you back, and will jog along next to you. We want to be there jogging with you for every big ride of your business.
